working on motivation
I do hope to be a good writer, and I think I’ve lost a lot of that. I stopped writing when I reached high school, and the muscle deteriorated. Trying to bring it back is hard, like I’m reaching into a reservoir full of words that don’t fit anymore. This is the same with reading. When I was younger I tore through books, so much so I hardly digested stories. Now a book can barely capture my attention anymore. It has to have a lot to do with social media. I got used to having less quiet time and more time staring at short videos. It eats away at any creative time I have, and gives me a great feeling of relief when I scroll. I’m hoping going to university will chip away at some of my dependence on the blue light that I force into my eyes at night, but I think I also just have to keep writing when I don’t want to, or don’t have any ideas (which is often).
